LAUTARO 100: THE NUMBERS BEHIND THE GOALS
Cagliari have been an important team Lautaro's career: on 29 September 2018 at San Siro he scored his first goal in Serie A with a header, marking his first celebration in an Inter shirt. The relationship between Lautaro and goals for the Nerazzurri began that day and has spanned five seasons (including the current one). Lautaro had recently turned 21 when he grabbed his first goal. One of the Nerazzurri number 10's abilities is to be found in that very goal scored against the Sardinians: his heading ability. He has scored 18 goals in such fashion so far. He has also scored 22 with his left foot, and 61 with his right. Numbers that make Lautaro a complete striker. 90 of his goals have come from inside the box, while 11 have been fired in from range.
The teams he has scored the most goals against? Cagliari and... AC Milan. As a true derby man, Lautaro has scored 8 goals in derbies.
LAUTARO 100: THE MOST ICONIC GOALS IN HIS NERAZZURRI CAREER
The road to 100 goals, as mentioned, began against Cagliari, on 29 September 2018. Cross from the left, Lautaro went towards the near post in front of the defender and scored his first goal in an Inter shirt with his head. It was the first moment of joy in Italy for the number 10, and the first memory the Nerazzurri fans have of him.
17 March 2019: The Milan derby took place, and with it came his first goal against the Rossoneri. In a derby that would end 3-2 to the Nerazzurri, Lautaro scored the third goal from the penalty spot, thus sealing the three points for Inter.
In the following season, 2019/20, came his first strike in the Champions League. He scored two goals in the away match against Slavia Prague. The first goal was one of his trademark finishes: movement in the heart of the penalty area and then a tidy close-range finish with a right-footed volley. He would then repeat the trick in the second half, scoring another right-footed effort after yet another Lukaku assist. It would be in this season that Lu-La was born.
3 January 2021 was the date of his first hat-trick in an Inter shirt. The opponent was Crotone, who were put to the sword by El Toro. A hat-trick that was the result of a world-class striking show. A few months later he scored an important brace against AC Milan. The first goal was a classic bit of work from Lu-La. Lukaku's cross from the right and Lautaro's finish. For the second he finished off some good work from Perisic. These two goals were crucial in the Scudetto race.
In the following season, with the tricolour on his chest, he scored some very important goals. Starting with the penalty he scored in the Supercoppa against Juventus. His goal began the comeback, which was then sealed by Sanchez. Another trophy raised to the sky for Lautaro. A few months passed and at Liverpool he scored one of his finest goals. He received the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a heavenly right-footer that finished in the top corner. The goal did not prove to be enough for qualification, but showed the pure quality of Lautaro's ball-striking.
Qualities that he showed again in a thrilling Coppa Italia semi-final, won against AC Milan. In the 3-0 win in the second leg he scored twice. The first was a photocopy of the second goal he scored against Slavia Praga. He got on the end of Darmian's cross from the right and volleyed home on his right foot to open the scoring. The second was a true poacher's finish: getting on the end of Correa's pass and slotting home. Inter were through to the final on their way to another trophy.
This season, it is impossible not to mention the goal scored in Barcelona. A precise finish from the edge of the box, the ball hitting both posts and then going into the net. It was an end-to-end match that finished 3-3. Also extraordinary were the two goals scored against AC Milan in two different competitions. The first in the Supercoppa against AC Milan in Riyadh, the second in the Champions League semi-final second leg. Both goals were the culmination of the talent, strength and technique of a player who has become one of the Nerazzurri's most important players. His energy and concentration have made him a real fan favourite at San Siro.
