Attack, defence and assists: stats at the halfway point
Team
— Jan 8th 2024The most interesting numbers following the opening 19 matches of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign
Following their 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona, the Nerazzurri have played half their league fixtures this campaign. Currently, Simone Inzaghi's side sit top of the table on 48 points following 15 wins, three draws and just a single defeat. Only twice before have Inter achieved a bigger tally across their first 19 matches: in 2006/07 and 2007/08.
TOP XI
INTER ON THE ATTACK
Inter have scored 44 goals through eleven different scorers during the current Serie A campaign. Three players have already reached double figures in terms of goal contributions (goals and assists): Martínez (18), Thuram (13) and Çalhanoglu (10). The most prolific Nerazzurro has been the captain, who, with 16 goals, tops the Serie A goalscoring charts and is one of three players across the top five European leagues (along with Mbappé and Kane) to have bagged more than 15 goals in each of the past four seasons (from 2020/21 to 2023/24). The Argentinian striker has now scored 120 times in Nerazzurri colours.
On average, Inter have scored a goal every 38 minutes. The Nerazzurri always look to attack, as proven by the 101 shots they've had at goal. Out of all the teams in the league, Inzaghi's men have scored the most second-half goals (24) and the most times in the final 30 minutes of play (18). Inter have also made particularly effective use of the wings, netting eleven times from crosses. No side has done better.
CLEAN SHEETS
The Nerazzurri have certainly been solid this season. In fact, Inzaghi's side have conceded just nine goals across the first half of the campaign; no team has ever done better during a 20-team Serie A season. Yann Sommer is the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets to his name (twelve) and is thus proving to be a very reliable figure between the sticks in his first season in Italy.
Furthermore, the Nerazzurri are one of two sides not to have shipped any goals in the first 15 minutes of play so far this Serie A campaign. They're also the only team not to have conceded any in the final quarter of an hour.
TIKUS AND MKHITARYAN, ASSIST KINGS
Team play and fluidity are just some of the Nerazzurri's strengths. Inter boast two players who have provided at least five assists: Marcus Thuram, with six successful assists, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has five to his name.
