Fun facts, stats and recognition for the Champions of Italy

The trophy being lifted to the sky following Inter vs. Udinese on the final matchday was a fitting end to an incredible season for the Nerazzurri, who won the title with four games to spare thanks to the growth of a whole group through hard work and sacrifices made by every individual.

Inter finished on 91 points and thus surpassed the 90-point mark in a single top-flight campaign for the second time in their history, while the Nerazzurri also had the best defence (35 goals conceded) and the second-best attack in the division, behind Atalatna (89 vs. 90 goals scored).

The team’s numbers reflect the efforts and qualities of the individuals it consists of: Inter have the most individual players in Opta’s team of the season.

OPTA'S TOP XI

Alessandro Bastoni

33 Serie A appearances and three assists for the 22-year-old, who was one of the Nerazzurri players to spend the most minutes on the pitch in the campaign that finished yesterday. He’s the defender who started the most moves that led to goals during the 2020/21 Serie A season (seven).

Stefan de Vrij

The Dutch defender retains his place: he was also named in Opta’s Top XI last year and at the end of the first half of the 2020/21 campaign. Out of those who made at least 30 appearances, he’s the player with the highest pass completion rate (93.8%) in the season just gone.

Lukaku

24 goals and eleven assists for Romelu Lukaku in 2020/21: Inter’s No.9 is the first player to find the net at least 20 times and set up a teammate to score on at least ten occasions in a single Serie A campaign since 2004/05 (when Opta started collecting data on assists).

Samir Handanovic didn’t quite make it, but, along with Donnarumma, is the goalkeeper who kept the most clean sheets in the past season (14). The AC Milan shot-stopper made 14 more saves, however (92 vs. 78).
