Inter recorded their tenth consecutive league victory yesterday evening, beating Sassuolo 2-1 at San Siro. The Nerazzurri’s latest win has seen them move up to 71 points after 29 matches and extend their lead at the top of the table to eleven points.
10 CONSECUTIVE VICTORIES
Inter have been perfect since the start of the second half of the season: ten matches and ten wins. The Nerazzurri are the first team to achieve this feat in the three-points-per-win era. From Inter 4-0 Benevento on 30 January to Inter 2-1 Sassuolo, Antonio Conte’s men have been able to create an eleven-point gap at the top, scoring 23 goals and conceding just four in the process.
Inter’s longest ever winning run in Serie A came in 2006/07, when Mancini’s side emerged victorious from 17 consecutive matches. That season, Inter sat on 74 points after 29 matches, three more than the number Conte’s men have collected so far (71).
LUKAKU AND LAUTARO, A GOALSCORING PARTNERSHIP
Two shots on target for Inter and two goals against Sassuolo. Our relentless duo up front were once again on the scoresheet in the same match and once again combined to create a Nerazzurri goal. Indeed, for the eighth time this season, one of them set the other one up to find the net (in this case Lukaku provided the assist for Lautaro to make it 2-0).
Lukaku (21) and Lautaro (15) now have 36 goals between them this Serie A season. Last year, they achieved a 37-goal haul.
Lukaku has now found the net 21 times in the league this season. The Belgian scored his latest goal with his head, the second time he’s done so this campaign (after Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia). Romelu has been on the scoresheet in eleven of Inter’s 14 home matches in Serie A so far.
In total, Lukaku has made 28 league appearances and bagged at least one goal in 17 games. Inter have won 16 of the fixtures he’s scored in.
Lautaro, meanwhile, has set a personal record for number of goals in a single Serie A campaign: the Argentine has bagged 15 so far. While he tended to score early on last season, eleven of his last 14 goals this year have come in the second half.
