TURIN – His last appearance came in 2020 on 9 July, against Verona. That day marked the beginning of a long and complicated time for Matias Vecino, who ended up watching matches from the sidelines for several months. In January, he took to the pitch with the Nerazzurri Primavera side. Now, in the final few minutes of the match against Torino, he put his muscles, feet and determination at the service of the team.
Back involved and a great victory, an important bit of joy for the Uruguayan midfielder: “I’m well now and I am truly happy to be back playing, but most of all to have got the victory. I've missed being out on the pitch, it’s been a very long and difficult period but I needed to break the ice and go back to feeling these sensations that you only experience when you play.
Vecino, who underwent surgery on his knee, told Inter TV: “It wasn’t easy: when you don’t play for such a long time and you’ve had two operations, it requires effort. Now, however, I feel like I’m back at 100% and I’m ready to give a hand to the team, who are performing well.
“Today’s match was one where we suffered a bit more than usual, but these are important games if you want to win in the league: in past years, perhaps we wouldn’t have won a game like this, bringing home three points makes all the difference.”
Now for the final sprint: “I’m available: there are lots of players, and the important thing is working to ensure that you're ready. We're fighting for something important, it’s nice to help the team.”
