NAPLES - Two doubles in a row: one against Genoa to round off 2019, and the other at the San Paolo to kick off 2020 for Inter. Romelu Lukaku also broke a record with his two goals against Napoli tonight: 14 goals in his first 18 Serie A appearances. An absolutely flying start which sees him overtake Vieri’s precedent back in the year 2000 (13 goals). His ten goals on the road is another outstanding statistic. But more than anything, tonight saw Inter bring home three huge points, the Nerazzurri now sitting on 45 points after 18 games in the league.
Our number 9 spoke about his feelings after the win: “It’s important to have a leader like Conte behind you, we’re a young side and he’s a champion. My partnership with Lautaro? We’re great friends off the pitch and we manage to help each other when we play together. I’m happy with how we’re working together but I know that there’s still room for further improvement.”
“We played a great game tonight, I’m happy for the fans because this is a win that sends a message to everyone. I don’t think about records or statistics: I just work to help the team win. I’m happy with how we’re doing, we’re growing thanks to all the work we’re doing together.”
A word on Sunday’s game against Atalanta: “We’ll work out the best way to win together with our Coach.”
