VARESE - It was a crazy derby on Saturday filled with excitement, with a late winner from Merola sending Armando Madonna’s Nerazzurri side into ecstasy. Despite Milan coming back twice after the interval, Inter demonstrated character and great determination to eventually secure the win. At the end of the match, Roberto Samaden, Davide Merola and Facundo Colidio all spoke to Inter TV:
Roberto Samaden: “Winning the #DerbyMilano is always important, even if today, Milan deserved something more. We were lucky at the end not to concede a fourth, but we were determined. I want to pass on my praise to the Rossoneri for a match full of great spirit and organisation. We did well to make the most of our moments and individual pieces of skill. We have an extraordinary group of players and Madonna is doing a great job. The Coach has a top squad available and he’s very good at altering the playing system, even midway through a game. He deserves credit for this win because he believed in it right until the very end, transmitting a message of 'we must try to win, and not remain satisfied with a draw'.
Davide Merola: “Winning the derby is always special, and to do it like this is even better. We’ll now head to London in search of qualifying, looking to pick up three points before hoping also for Barcelona win. We are a great a team and we’ve always been aware of this. We believe in ourselves and today I want to congratulate my friends because we never gave up right until the final minute.
Facundo Colidio: “The ball was there in the final moment but I didn’t manage to make good contact. Fortunately, it then fell to Merola who made no mistake. Winning the derby is very important for the rest of the season. It was a hard game, we didn’t put in a great performance but we picked up all three points thanks to our determination. We now head to London knowing that we can only aim for one result.”
