Barça: two consecutive clean sheets at home to Italian teams

Barcelona have not conceded at home to an Italian club since Felipe's goal in the 24th minute of their 4-1 Champions League victory over Udinese on 27 September 2005. They have since hosted Italian opposition twice, drawing 0-0 with AC Milan in 2005/06 and winning 2-0 against Inter in the group stages earlier this season.

Barcelona through twice out of five times after 3-1 defeat in first leg

For the sixth time in their history Barcelona play a return leg of a European tie at home after losing the first leg 3-1. The Blaugrana have gone on to qualify for the next round twice and have been knocked out on three occasions. The Catalans successfully overturned 3-1 defeats in Dynamo Kiev in 1993/94 and Chelsea in 1999/2000, beating the Ukrainians 4-1 and knocking out the English 5-1 after extra time. Barça were eliminated at the hands of Real Madrid in the 1959/60 European Cup (3-1 defeat in return leg), Zurich in the 1967/68 Fairs Cup (1-0 victory in Spain) and Porto in the 1972/73 UEFA Cup (1-0 defeat at the Camp Nou).

Catalans chasing seventh final; Inter their fifth

Defending European champions Barcelona are looking to reach their seventh European Cup/Champions League final. Beaten finalists in 1960/61 (3-2 defeat to Benfica in Bern), 1985/86 (2-0 penalties defeat to Steaua Bucharest in Seville) and 1993/94 (4-0 defeat to AC Milan in Athens), Barcelona lifted the trophy in 1991/92 (1-0 win over Sampdoria in London after extra time), 2005/06 (2-1 victory over Arsenal in Paris) and 2008/09 (2-0 win against Manchester United in Rome). Inter won the competition in 1963/64 (3-1 victory over Real Madrid in Vienna) and 1964/65 (1-0 win over Benfica in Milan), and were runners-up in 1966/67 (2-1 defeat to Celtic in Vienna) and 1971/72 (2-0 defeat to Ajax in Rotterdam.

No Inter goal in last three trips to Spain

Inter haven't scored away to Barcelona in a competitive fixture since their 2-1 Fairs Cup victory on 14 January 1970. Bertini scored Inter's second goal in the 32nd minute of that match. The Nerazzurri have played two away games against Barcelona since that Fairs Cup win, losing 3-0 in the 2002/03 Champions League and 2-0 in the group stages of this season's competition. Inter's last goal away to a Spanish club was scored by Julio Cruz in the 90th minute of the 5-1 Champions League win against Valencia on 20 October 2004. The Milan outfit have failed to score in their three successive trips to Spain - all in the Champions League - losing 1-0 to Villarreal in 2005/06, drawing 0-0 with Valencia in 2006/07 and losing 2-0 to Barcelona in 2009/10.

Record six consecutive European wins for Inter

Inter go into the semi-final return leg against Barcelona on the back of six consecutive victories in a Champions League - a record run of wins for the Nerazzurri in Europe. After their 2-0 defeat to Barça José Mourinho's men beat Rubin Kazan 2-0 at home, Chelsea 2-1 at home and 1-0 away, CSKA Moscow 1-0 at home and 1-0 away, and Barcelona 3-1 at home.

BARCELONA - Inter were beaten 1-0 on the night but progress through to the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League final with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Barcelona.

The Nerazzurri survived an out-and-out siege in the Camp Nou after playing over an hour in ten men following the dismissal of Thiago Motta.

Gerard Piqué struck late on and Bojan had a goal ruled out after a hand ball by Tourè, but it was too little, too late for the defending European champions.

José Mourinho had named an unchanged team from last week's win in Milan but was forced into a late switch when Goran Pandev pulled up with a muscle strain. Cristian Chivu took the Macedonian's place and slotted into midfield with Arnautovic going on the bench.

Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola made two changes from his first-leg lineup, bringing in Gabriel Milito and Yaya Tourè for Maxwell and suspended captain Carles Puyol.

The hosts pinned back Inter from the outset, but the Nerazzurri managed to suffocate the Barça passing machine with Walter Samuel making some vital interceptions to deny Messi and co. a way through.

Barça's bid to reverse the 3-1 defeat from the first leg received a boost on 28 minutes when Thiago Motta - already on a yellow card - was harshly shown a straight red by De Bleeckere for shoving Busquets in the face.

But for all their efforts Barcelona failed to raise the tempo and even when they did get sight of goal there was Julio Cesar to get past and the Brazilian goalkeeper produced a magnificent tipped save from Messi's curling shot just past the half-hour mark.

Inter's ten heroes kept the Blaugrana at bay after the interval with Eto'o and Milito helping out in defence, Samuel and Cambiasso making Messi look ordinary, and Lucio fighting tooth and nail to protect Julio Cesar's goal.

Barcelona sub Bojan summed up his team's night on 82 minutes when he nodded wide Messi's cross with the goal gaping, but two minutes later Piqué provided a lifeline, receiving in the area from Xavi and turning Cordoba and Julio Cesar before tucking into an open net.

More nail-biting drama for Inter fans followed in the closing minutes as Julio Cesar made important saves from Xavi and Messi, and Bojan had a goal disallowed after a hand ball by Tourè.

Inter face Bayern Munich in the final at Madrid's Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday 22 May. The treble dream is alive and kicking.
