Three wins from three in Europe for Zanchetta’s Inter, who came away with a great victory over Young Boys despite being reduced to ten men.
After their wins over Manchester City and Crvena Zvezda, the Nerazzurri also got the better of the Swiss side in the UEFA Youth League after goals from Della Mora, Cocchi and Alexiou.
At the Sportpark Wyler in Bern, the match was an even affair early on as the two teams looked to figure each other out. It took 34 minutes for the first goal to arrive, with Venturini picking out Della Mora to score following a well-worked team move. Two minutes later, De Pieri beat a defender before seeing his effort saved by the Young Boys goalkeeper. The hosts equalised in the 43rd minute as Jost netted on the follow-up following a fantastic save from Zamarian to deny Tsimba.
Zanchetta’s side then showed real character in the second half. In the 54th minute, Cocchi scored with a lovely strike to restore Inter’s advantage, but, two minutes later, Quieto received a second yellow to leave the Nerazzurri down to ten men. Inter showed real determination and came close through Della Mora on the hour mark, but Smith equalised for the hosts after 63 minutes. The Nerazzurri kept believing and bagged a winner with just three minutes of normal time remaining: Cocchi sent in a fantastic free-kick for Alexiou, who added the finish and secured three points for Inter.
