“After we made it 2-0, we no longer played like an Inter side should, and we stopped doing everything we’d done until that point. We did some good things in the opening 45 minutes, and then we made a good start to the second half. However, after doubling our lead, we stopped playing and didn’t have the same intensity as before. In these kinds of matches, you pay the price for these things. In a final, there’s always plenty of hunger, but we missed a few chances: I could have scored, and the same applies to Frattesi, Dumfries and Mkhitaryan. However, certain moments change matches, and we didn’t manage them well. I don’t know if it was a deserved defeat, but AC Milan never stopped believing, so credit to them. It might be the case that we became a bit unbalanced as we chased a third goal. Now, however, we need to focus on recovering, and then we’ll analyse the match calmly to understand where we got it wrong so we can bounce back.
It's hard to explain what happened. There was certainly tension because AC Milan are strong on the counter and very fast. We didn’t mark our men well, but we also had chances to put the game to bed. We didn’t take them, and sometimes matches go this way. We’re halfway through the season, and there’s still a long way to go. This defeat should serve as a lesson to the group to be even more of a team and be even more solid as we look to fight for all our objectives. I’m confident: this team have always shown great character. I said this in the changing room, and Nicolò spoke a lot too. We’re united and we’re a team, and these kinds of matches should help us come together even more. There’s pride in defending this shirt and always giving our all, and, by continuing on our path, we can achieve other targets.”
