Lautaro: "A huge performance, we displayed quality and character"

— Apr 8th 2025Seven UEFA Champions League goals this season for the Nerazzurri captain, who took centre stage in Germany
At the Fußball Arena in Munich, Inter displayed character and quality to put an end to Bayern's 22-game unbeaten run on home soil in the Champions League. The opening goal on a fantastic night was scored by Lautaro Martinez, who brilliantly used the outside of his right foot to score his seventh Champions League goal this season. It's a finish that brings him closer to another Inter great, namely Samuel Eto'o, who was the last Nerazzurri player to find the net at least seven times in a single edition of the tournament (in 2010/11). The Argentinian striker now has 22 goals to his name in the top European competitions, the same number as Roberto Boninsegna (only Altobelli has a better tally in these competitions, 35). This is what our captain had to say following tonight's first-leg success:
“My goal? I won a tackle and saw there was space. Marcus played an incredible pass to me. I wanted to shoot with my left foot, but then I changed my mind and luckily scored a fantastic goal that put us in front. This is a victory we really wanted after our draw in Parma. We wanted to show our worth. We talked a lot, and we want to keep growing and winning and put the Parma match behind us, starting afresh from today’s victory. It was a match where we showed real character and quality. We produced a fantastic performance, and, at such a great stadium, the lads showed how good they are and how proudly they wear this shirt. What do we need to do in the return leg? We need to display the same character and quality that we did today. We denied Bayern a lot of possession in the first half, and they struggled. Now, we need to recover as quickly as possible because we have a lot of games ahead of us.”
