Lautaro: "This win is an important sign"

— Jan 6th 2024The Nerazzurri captain scored his and Inter's first goal of 2024 in the 2-1 victory over Verona at San Siro
A new year has begun and Lautaro Martinez is back on the scoresheet. After missing Inter's final two fixtures of 2023, El Toro has returned with a goal, opening the scoring in the first half from a Mkhitaryan assist. The Nerazzurri went on to beat Hellas 2-1 to secure their first three points of 2024.
El Toro's numbers are certainly impressive:
Since Serie A became a 20-team division again (2004/05), Lautaro Martinez is just the second Inter player to have scored more than 15 goals (he's bagged 16) across the first half of a league campaign, after Icardi in 2017/18 (17 goals).
Lautaro Martinez is one of just three players in the top five European divisions (along with Mbappé and Kane) to have netted more than 15 goals in each of the last four seasons (from 2020/21 to 2023/24).
Lautaro Martinez has scored six Serie A goals against Hellas Verona; only against Cagliari and Salernitana (nine) has he bagged more in the competition.
