Inzaghi: "It hurts to lose the derby, we suffered a blackout that cost us dearly"

— Sep 3rd 2022The thoughts of the Nerazzurri Coach following Milan vs. Inter
MILAN - It was a bitter evening for Inter, who tasted defeat in the derby. The game finished 3-2 to Milan, a scoreline which reflected the course of the match: the Nerazzurri initially took the lead, struggled for a period and then managed to stage a fightback, only to be denied by Maignan.
This is what Simone Inzaghi had to say following today’s game:
“It was an even affair at the start as both teams looked to figure one another out. We scored a great goal following a really well-worked move. The problem is that we suffered a blackout lasting half an hour after their equaliser. During this phase of the game, we conceded three goals, something which we can’t afford to give to our opponents. In order for us to score twice, we needed to put a couple of fantastic moves together, but the goals we conceded were too easy. I’m the first one who’s responsible for this, and we certainly need to work and do better because this team is the same one that went eight games without conceding last season. Credit should also go to the Milan goalkeeper, who made two vital saves.
“I don’t think there are similarities with the defeat at the Stadio Olimpico, but the phase where we went missing cost us three goals. For us, managing the moments is extremely important, and we can’t have the kind of blackouts that cost us the games against Milan and Lazio. In certain games, the details make the difference.
“It hurts to have lost this derby, it meant so much to us. We could have done more and there’s a lot of disappointment. We’re sad for our fans and the Club.”
