“We did well in the first half against a quality team in good shape. Given what we created, we should have scored more goals. We started the second half well, but they made it 1-1 and we were no longer able to keep our shape. Then, Berardi scored and we lost our composure. Our performance was good in the opening 45 minutes; we covered the spaces well and perhaps allowed them to have two counter-attacks. We didn’t struggle and should have scored more goals. There are games like this one where certain incidents don’t go in your favour, and losing your composure and shape against a team like Sassuolo will inevitably lead to difficulties.
A lot of credit should go to Berardi; he has real quality and it was a brilliant goal. Unfortunately, this is what happened, but we should have been more composed, more of a team and stayed in our shape. The lads are dejected; it’s a defeat that hurts in front of our own fans. We need to analyse everything, but we’ll be back in action in 48 hours. This is what our calendar is like, and we need to make sure we’re ready. We have to understand where we could have done better, and it’s certainly the case that we could have done more in the final half an hour.
Arnautovic’s injury takes away some rotation options up front, something which is significant for us. Sanchez is doing well; he’s an important player who will help us. We need to keep going and get players like Sensi and Cuadrado back fit so that we have more options.”
