— Mar 5th 2023The thoughts of the Coach after the 2-0 victory over Lecce
Inter beat Lecce 2-0 to pick up an important three points against Lecce at home. This is what Coach Simone Inzaghi had to say following the game, which was decided by goals from Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez:
"We produced an excellent performance; we got our approach right and didn't lower our intensity levels. Lautaro's goal obviously made the second half more comfortable, but we were focused from the get-go against a side that have caused many teams problems. We were intense, determined, aggressive and a team at all times. We remained united, and that's how you win games.
"Lecce are an aggressive side and looked to catch us out with their press. We needed to move a great deal, and that's how we prepared for the game. I'd like to thank the lads, who displayed excellent concentration levels throughout.
"Lautaro has been here for several years now and performed consistently. He's a really important player for us. He and the rest of the team need to carry on producing these displays with the aim of taking Inter to the top. Looking at the league this season, we could have done more. However, we know that we've done some really good things in the past 18 months. We now have many more important games ahead of us.
"Beyond the past two matches, Gosens has been impressing me in training for a long time now and has always done well as a substitute. I'm pleased with him, and he was excellent this evening. Dzeko also played well and is always ready to help the team move up the pitch, something which wasn't easy today. As regards the strikers, we'll have to make the best choices; playing every three days means that we need everyone, and we'll be involved in some challenging matches on a physical level. Dumfries has done really well during his time at Inter; he's looking good in training and made an excellent contribution to the second goal. He was fantastic in the second half."
