Disappointment and regret were the feelings after being knocked out of the Champions League: Atletico Madrid went through to the quarter-finals, coming out on top 3-2 on penalties. At the end of the game, Yann Sommer and Stefan De Vrij commented.
“It's hard to digest, especially after penalties. Today, the atmosphere was intimidating, this is football when you play away from home. We certainly lacked a bit of luck, we had many opportunities, but weren't able to capitalise on them as best we could, but the level of the Champions League is high and anything can happen. We were close to reaching the quarter-finals, but at the final whistle we said to ourselves that we are a very strong team. There is disappointment but we have to accept the outcome. Now, it will be important to bounce back, we have a big goal to pursue: from tomorrow, we will start thinking about the match against Napoli.”

“I don't think we showed the typical Inter, especially in the first half because we conceded the game to them a bit too much. They created chances, but we took the lead: the big disappointment is conceding the equaliser immediately after. In the second half, we did better and we had our chances. We really disappointed about going out, especially on penalties. We didn't play very well, but the spirit is always there, everyone in this team always gives their all. Unfortunately, tonight went wayward, but we are still having a great season and there is still work to finish off that we started in July. We know what the objective is: we are on a great run. Unfortunately, tonight, it has ended in this way, but we want to continue and finish off this season in the best possible way.”
