“Clearly, there is disappointment because the team played a serious and focused match. We had a good first half, created a lot of chances, and conceded a goal from a fluke opportunity. We also had some clear-cut chances. In the second half, we didn’t move the ball as quickly, and in the final moments, we should have been more effective. We needed to manage the ball better. We had taken the lead in the 84th minute, and it was unsatisfactory to end up with a draw. A team like ours should not concede an equaliser like that.
I have to say it was down to specific incidents. The team was focused and made a very good impression on me. We need to work on it, as we’ve only recently started working together. There’s nothing to say about the effort, we conceded two really fortuitous goals, and apart from that, Genoa had very few shots.
We know that winning is difficult, and winning again is even harder. The players know this, they are mature. I am disappointed because this season opener, with many players returning late from the Euros and Copa America, was almost ours.
Bisseck? He had a great game, though in the last 20 minutes, he wasn’t as sharp as in the first 70. I was about to substitute him with Pavard but decided to bring on Asllani instead. He needs to work on it. He made a mistake but should continue on his path. He is a player of great value.”
