LECCE - A real team victory, with Inter showing all the grit and tenacity that Denzel Dumfries possesses. After bagging the winning goal for the Nerazzurri's first three points of the new season, the Dutchman spoke to DAZN and Inter TV: "I'm really happy to get on the scoresheet, but the most important thing is the win; we deserved it. We did well today, and I'm happy that I've helped the team."
Dumfries had already shown that he knows where the net is, and he hopes to build on what he did last season: "Physically, I feel excellent; my fitness levels are good. I don't know how many goals I'll score this year, but I'm hoping for an improvement compared to last season. I've now known Serie A, my teammates and the team for a year."
The Nerazzurri No.2 finished by giving his thoughts on Romelu Lukaku, who scored the first goal of the match: "Romelu is very important for the whole team and also for me given that he can speak Dutch. He has really important qualities and he showed that today. His way of playing helps the whole team."
Federico Dimarco, who was heavily involved down the left flank, also spoke after the match. His cross led to the opening goal from Lukaku, while he also came close with a volley and sent many balls into the box.
"We certainly had to dig in to win, but it was deserved. We created a lot of chances and the goal at the end is the reward for our efforts. Starting the season with three points is very important."
Dimarco played as a defender, a winger and then a left-back: "Where I play isn't important; the important thing is to win. Many of the situations we bring about are similar to those we created last year."
"What will this game teach us? That these matches need to be killed off immediately. We can't wait until the 90th minute."
