The open-top bus that travelling through the streets of the city surrounded by Nerazzurri fans celebrating the clinching of the Second Star: it's an image that will stay with every Inter supporter when looking back at 2024. The year that is coming to a close will be remembered by the Nerazzurri faithful as one of the most exciting in Inter's history. An unforgettable season characterised by magnificent wins on the pitch and individual records, and where new chapters were written in the Club's glorious history.
THE SECOND STAR AND THE SUPERCOPPA
The 2023/24 saw the Nerazzurri achieve something historic: the Club's 20th Scudetto title worth a Second Star. Led by Simone Inzaghi, Inter dominated the league, displaying solidity and extraordinary consistency throughout. The Nerazzurri accumulated 94 points and had the best attack (89 goals scored) and the best defence (just 22 conceded). On top of that, Inzaghi's men won the Supercoppa Italiana for the third time in a row: Lautaro bagged a stoppage-time winner against Napoli in the final in Riyadh to clinch the trophy.
LAUTARO MARTINEZ, A BRILLIANT YEAR
Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez was at the heart of Inter's extraordinary 2024. Thanks to a 24-goal haul, El Toro finished as the top scorer in Serie A. His brilliant contribution saw him win the Lega Serie A MVP award for the 2023/24 season.
But that's not all: the Argentine continued to make history at Inter, surpassing Nyers in the Club's all-time top scorers list, where he currently occupies seventh place with 136 goals. On 28 October, there was further recognition for his performances: he finished in seventh place in the Ballon d'Or ranking, reaffirming his status as one of the best players in the world. Finally, he became the top foreign scorer in Inter's history.
BASTONI AND CALHANOGLU: MVP AWARDS AND RECORDS
2024 was also a fantastic year for Alessandro Bastoni and Hakan Calhanoglu, who were respectively named as the best defender and best midfielder in Lega Serie A during the 2023/24 season. Bastoni was a pillar in the Nerazzurri backline, constantly displaying tactical intelligence and his extraordinary technical ability. As for Calhanoglu, he etched his name into the records of Italian football, becoming the first player in Serie A history to score 17 consecutive penalties. His ice-cold composure from the spot made him one of the most decisive players of the season.
SIMONE INZAGHI'S RECORD-BREAKING NUMBERS
2024 was a year that saw Simone Inzaghi take charge of his 300th match in Serie A and become the coach who has won the most trophies in finals with the Nerazzurri in all competitions (since 1929/30): since joining the Club, the current Inter boss has won three Supercoppa and two Coppa Italia finals, putting him ahead of Helenio Herrera and Roberto Mancini (four each). Inzaghi is the second coach under whom Inter have scored at least four goals in four consecutive Serie A matches: this streak occurred against Roma, Salternitana, Lecce and Atalanta in February 2024. The only other Nerazzurri tactician to achieve this was Árpád Weisz in 1930. Furthermore, Inzaghi is the first coach in Inter's history to lead the Nerazzurri to nine consecutive wins at the start of a single calendar year in Serie A.
SOMMER: CLEAN SHEET KING
Finally, a tribute to Yann Sommer, who had an extraordinary year. The Swiss goalkeeper, who kept 19 clean sheets during the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, was a guarantee between the sticks and a crucial part of the team's hugely successful 2024.
