Flying Dutchman Dumfries and the march to the Supercoppa

— FridayStatistics, trivia and more: with our victory over Atalanta, Inter fly into the Supercoppa Italiana final
A bicycle kick inside the box, a rocket from the distance. Two goals, two works of art. Denzel Dumfries made Inter history in the Supercoppa Italiana, a competition won eight times by the Nerazzurri. Inzaghi's side, with their 2-0 win over Atalanta, secured the opportunity to play for the trophy for the fourth consecutive year, following triumphs in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
The final is scheduled for Monday 6 January: for Inter, this is their 13th participation in the Supercoppa Italiana. The success over Atalanta confirms the positive path for Inter, who have won five consecutive matches. What's more: five victories without conceding a goal. A feat that has only occurred three other times since 1929/30 for Inter, the last time between November and December 2007 (six clean sheet victories in that case).
Speaking of clean sheets, Inter have achieved the most of them among the teams in Europe's top five leagues this season in all competitions: 16, at least two more than any other team.
DUMFRIES, THE FLYING DUTCHMAN
Dumfries' double was stunning and exhilarating. The Nerazzurri number 2 is the fifth Dutchman to score in the Supercoppa Italiana after Frank Rijkaard, Marco Van Basten (twice), Ruud Gullit and Wesley Sneijder.
The Dutchman has already reached five goals in the season (three in the league) and becomes the third player in Inter's history to score a brace in the Supercoppa Italiana: before him, Patrick Vieira (in the 4-3 win against Roma) and Samuel Eto'o (in the 3-1 win, also against Roma).
Dumfries (11 goals and 10 assists) is one of four Serie A defenders who have scored at least 10 goals and dished out at least 10 assists in the last three seasons, along with Federico Dimarco (15G+20A), Theo Hernández (11G+18A) and Giovanni Di Lorenzo (10G+15A).
INZAGHI, THE SUPERCUP STREAK, ATALANTA
Inter continue their march in the Supercoppa Italiana: victory in 2022 against Juventus, in 2023 against AC Milan, in 2024 against Lazio and Napoli. Now success against Atalanta in the semi-final.
Since Simone Inzaghi started coaching Inter (2021/22), the Nerazzurri have been the team with the most clean sheets against Gasperini's Atalanta in all competitions: five, at least two more than any other opponent.
Inter have won seven consecutive matches in all competitions against Atalanta for the first time since the period between 1964 and 1967 (eight in that case).
Inter recorded three clean sheets in a row against Atalanta in all competitions for the first time since 2005.
