Various awards presented to the Nerazzurri at the event organised by the Italian Footballers' Association

It was a night full of awards for Inter at the Gran Gala del Calcio AIC, the event where the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) presents its accolades for the 2023/2024 football season.

Now in its twelfth edition, the event took place at the Superstudio Maxi in Milano in the presence of some of the most important figures in Italian football. In an evening full of sport and entertainment, Inter took centre stage, taking home the awards for Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Goal of the Year, while seven Nerazzurri players were also named in the Top-11 for 2023/24.

The first award for the Nerazzurri was Club of the Year following an incredible 2023/24 season that saw Simone Inzaghi's men clinch Inter's 20th Scudetto and the Supercoppa Italiana. The award was collected on stage by the Club's President and CEO Sport, Giuseppe Marotta.

“This is a huge satisfaction on a personal level as a representative of a club like Inter. We always have to keeping raising the bar, and we’ve raised it and will try to achieve further milestones this season. Inter has reached an important level again, one that befits its history and its trophy cabinet. This is thanks to this group of players, to Inzaghi, their leader, and to this Club, with men and women working daily to support these players and ensure they express themselves to their fullest potential. This award is for them. I’d like to thank and invite Javier Zanetti and Piero Ausilio to come up on stage as well, as they contribute to all of this. I share this award with them, too. Has the relationship with the owners changed? In the past, football was played and, at the end of the season, the important thing was the results that had been achieved on a sporting level. Today, the most used word is sustainability. Being a virtuous club doesn’t mean not achieving important goals. Both things are achievable if an important value is present within the Club, namely competence.”

Giuseppe Marotta, Presidente e CEO Sport Inter

“We’re a great team away from the pitch, too. We’re always at the disposal of this group of players and the coach, and we try to support them in every way possible. I believe that the key to last year’s success was the unity we had: the Club, the fans and the group of players together as one. This was evident both on and off the pitch, and that’s why we won the Second Star.”

Javier Zanetti, Vice President Inter

“We’ve made some changes, and we believe we have a highly competitive team and an extraordinary coach. Now, it’s over to them: they have to work together with our support. This is the group that will have to aim to go all the way, looking to achieve the goals we have in mind. We have several objectives, but they know that.”

Piero Ausilio, Chief Sport Officer Inter

There was special recognition for Simone Inzaghi, who was presented with the Coach of the Year award:

“I’m very happy to be here and to receive this award. I would like to share it with my players because it wouldn’t have been possible without them, as well as with the club, which has given me everything in these three and a half years, with my staff and with the fans, who always support us. Player rotation? We try to communicate with the fitness coaches. There are many games and it’s not easy, but we try to adapt. Taking a step back to yesterday, it was a difficult evening. We experienced moments that weren’t easy for anyone, but I think the football world showed its positive side: seeing the whole of Italy and the whole stadium come together around Bove was a beautiful example of what sport can be. Everyone goes on their own journey. I feel very appreciated by my Club, my players and the fans. I’m very happy here and hope to stay for a long time. We coaches have a challenging job; every day, we have to make numerous decisions. It’s not easy, but we do it for the good of our club.”

Simone Inzaghi

There was an individual award for Lautaro Martinez, who was voted as the Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season. It was an unforgettable campaign for the Inter captain, who finished as an Italian Champion, the Serie A MVP and the league's top scorer thanks to a 24-goal haul.

“I’d like to thank my teammates because this award wouldn’t have been possible without them. I’d also like to express my thanks to the coach, the staff, the Club for its constant trust, as well as our fans, who are always by our side. We hope to continue on this path and keep bringing trophies to Inter, which is our aim. I also thank my children, who have changed my life, my wife, who is here tonight, my entire family in Argentina, and my grandmother, who is going through a difficult moment. This award is for all of them.”

The Goal of the Year for the 2023/24 season also went to Inter. The award was presented to Marcus Thuram, who won it thanks to his precise and powerful strike into the top corner in the first derby of the season.

“It was a special moment for me: it was my first derby and first derby goal, and I was delighted. Before coming to Inter, not many people knew much about me, and that’s how I introduced myself. That goal received the most votes from the fans? We have a great fanbase at Inter. Did I imagine my first derby going the way it did? I knew we had a great chance of winning that match. I’d watched previous derbies on TV, with Inter often coming out on top. It was a special moment for me. I play with great players who provide a lot of assists. Lauti is one of the best strikers in the world. He gives me a lot of space on the pitch to do what I want, and it’s very easy to play with him. ”

Finally, seven Inter players were included in the 2023/24 Serie A Top-11: Yann Sommer, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolò Barella, Lautaro Martinez, and Marcus Thuram.

“I’m very happy and proud to be presented with this award. I thank everyone who voted for me, and it’s a special moment for me. Onana is a fantastic goalkeeper and did a great job at Inter. It’s always a big challenge coming in after a goalkeeper like him, but my objective is to maintain my style and help the team with my performances.”

Yann Sommer

“For the past six years, I’ve been following the philosophy of interpreting my role in a different way. I’ve had great mentors who have helped me, and I’d like to thank Coach Inzaghi, under whom I’ve undergone an evolution in the past four years, allowing me to become the best version of myself.”

Alessandro Bastoni

“Last season, where we wrote an important chapter in Inter's history, was extraordinary, especially for me because I grew up wearing this shirt. We won the Scudetto together with everyone who works for this Club. For me, Inter is a family.”

Federico Dimarco

“I’d like to thank the coach, the technical staff and my teammates. Playing with Bare, Zielinski, Miki and Frattesi is easy. I’ve improved and want to keep growing. I’m part of a wonderful team, and I want to carry on down this path.”

Hakan Calhanoglu

“We’re working well, and we’ve shown that no matter who plays, everyone is part of a project and part of the coach’s thinking. This allows us to express ourselves freely. This is good for everyone, and we’ve proven that whoever plays is working for the good of Inter. When you work well and others recognise your efforts, it’s a source of pride. We’re constantly trying to raise the bar. Others try to put pressure on us, but we like pressure, and we’ll try to win everything we can. We know can be difficult, and sometimes it takes time or a bit of luck, but we’ll do our best in every way possible.”

Nicolò Barella
