APPIANO GENTILE – Inter face Roma at 21:00 CET in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa at San Siro. The knockout match will see who reaches the semi-finals, with both sides having reached this stage following the Nerazzurri's extra-time win over Empoli and Roma's victory over Lecce. Simone Inzaghi gave his thoughts ahead of the game:
“The Coppa Italia is very important for us; it’s part of Inter's DNA. We’re in the quarter-finals and we’ve got a crucial match tomorrow. We’re aware that having beaten Empoli and if we beat Roma in tomorrow’s encounter – set to be a really tough tie – we’ll have made it to the semi-finals.
“We’re facing a top team on Tuesday which is capable of beating anyone. They’ve got quality all over the park and a fantastic coach in Jose Mourinho. We’re keen to make amends for the derby result which we didn’t deserve, but we’re aware that football is about certain moments. Roma also won’t be happy having drawn against Genoa at home, a result they also didn’t deserve. Playing in front of our fans always feels great. While tomorrow’s game is a midweek one we know our fans will give us great backing as they have done throughout the season. We hope to reward their support by reaching the next round.
“I’m fortunate to have a great and competitive team. From the beginning of the season to today everyone has always shown me that I can always count on them, whether they play 5, 20 or 90 minutes. We’re going into this game on the back of a bad defeat; we must be rational and understand that it’s in the past and we need to keep in mind all of the good work we’ve put in so far over the first six months of the season.”
