Our Sport CEO takes stock after the final game of the season: “With this club and these fans, we can keep aiming high”

MILAN – Giuseppe Marotta reflected on a largely successful 2021/22 campaign after Inter finished second in Serie A having previously claimed the Super Cup and Coppa Italia trophies.

“Our congratulations go to AC Milan,” the Sport CEO began following the Nerazzurri's 3-0 victory over Sampdoria, “but Inter also deserve to be congratulated across the board – from the owners and the president, who has always been very supportive, to the entire management team and our fans. Over 1,200,000 Interisti have watched us this season and that's an incredible number which says a lot about this club, its history and our teeming trophy cabinet.

“I am very proud to be able to say that over the last three seasons we've not only earned more points than anyone else but we've also been the best in terms of finishing positions and trophies. We'll continue on this path. We know it won't be easy but we have a strong club and we're sure there'll be plenty more joy to come for our fans.

“I want to thank our players too. They've proven themselves to be top-quality professionals, as they showed again after the final whistle today. We're also very proud of our young, always positive coach.

“Our future must be sustainable and competitive, and those two factors go hand in hand. This club has great expertise, sense of belonging and desire to do well in both the corporate and the sports departments.

“The owners have always been by our side and president Steven Zhang has given us constant support. I'm sure that with them and our exceptional fans we'll continue to enjoy success.

“The transfer market is always very difficult but we are ambitious. As club officials, we obviously need to be responsible and think about ensuring the club's sustainability but as I said before you can be both sustainable and competitive.

“We have a top-level management team and with [Piero] Ausilio, [Dario] Baccin and the help of [Javier] Zanetti I'm sure we'll put together a competitive squad for our coach. Our transfer business will certainly be worthy of Inter. We'll sit down for a chat, as all clubs do, to assess the season and weigh up our options.”
