Inter travel to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome for the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa final on Wednesday 11 May at 21:00 CEST, where they will face Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus side. The Nerazzurri had to overcome three clubs in four matches on their journey to the final, having faced Empoli, Roma and Milan twice in this year’s competition. Simone Inzaghi’s men have bagged eight goals so far and conceded two, with three clean sheets in their last three cup games.
In the Round of 16, Inter came off winners against Empoli in a match full of twists and turns, which was only decided in extra time. Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock on 13 minutes, but the Tuscan side managed to come back. They got an equaliser through Nedim Bajrani and took the lead via an own goal from Ionut Radu after Patrick Cutrone’s header bounced off the bar onto the back of the Inter goalkeeper. However, on 90+1 minutes, the Nerazzurri managed to bring it back level through an acrobatic effort from Andrea Ranocchia, making it 2-2 and sending the game to extra time. Stefano Sensi finally grabbed the winner for Inter, sealing a 3-2 victory.
In the quarter-final, Inter were up against Roma at San Siro. The Nerazzurri came out clear winners, going ahead after just two minutes thanks to a wonderful volleyed effort from Edin Dzeko, before Alexis Sanchez put an unstoppable strike past the Giallorossi goalkeeper in the second half.
In the semi-final, Inter faced a double header against Milan. With the away goal rule still in place, Inter had to win in the second leg having come away with a 0-0 draw in the first. And they did so emphatically, putting three past their rivals. Lautaro Martinez’s brace and Robin Gosens’ first Inter goal gave them a 3-0 victory overall.
Inter now head into their 14th Coppa Italia final on Wednesday.
