MILAN – Simone Inzaghi admitted his players might be feeling the weight of responsibility after struggling for points in recent weeks.
The boss was speaking after the 1-1 draw with Fiorentina – a result which means the Nerazzurri have taken just seven points from their last seven matches.
"We weren't good enough in the first half,” Inzaghi began. “A team like ours has to do much better. We created chances in the second half, especially after we scored, but it's not a good spell for us. Having only picked up seven points in our last seven games is probably starting to play on our minds a bit.
“Fiorentina played really well. They were the better team in the first half and we were better after the break but we're used to playing better than that.
“I don't think we're afraid; I think the lads feel the weight of responsibility. We were close to perfect in November, December and the start of January. We're experiencing a lull at the moment but we need to stay calm and work even harder to get back to winning ways.
“Of course I expected us to produce more in the first half but I'm the coach and I'm responsible for what happens on the pitch.”
The Nerazzurri will now set their sights on a trip to Juventus after the international break.
“We'll have 12 or 13 players away on international duty but we'll do our best to prepare for the games we have to play after the break.
“I'd be worried if we weren't creating anything. Perhaps we're rushing things a bit too much and maybe the results are starting to get to us.
"Of course if [Alexis] Sanchez had made it 2-1, we'd be talking about a different matter but we know how it works in football. We have to stay calm and get ourselves back on track because our fans are used to seeing us play differently.”
