MILAN - A hat-trick, a brace, assists and three points. Inter’s 5-0 victory over Salernitana had it all at the San Siro.
Lautaro Martinez’s strike put an end to a 425-minute drought for Inter in all competitions.
In addition to El Toro’s hat-trick, Edin Dzeko got a brace whilst also adding an assist to his haul.
At the root of Lautaro’s first two goals was Nicolo Barella, who took his tally of assists to nine for the season in Serie A.
Robin Gosens, on his Nerazzurri league debut, also got his first assist for the club.
LAUTARO GETS HAT-TRICK AND REACHES 51 GOALS IN SERIE A
Lautaro Martinez got the ball rolling against Salernitana scoring for the first time in eight Serie A matches (his last goal was against Salernitana in December). He also put an end to his longest goal drought in the top flight.
El Toro became the seventh player since the 2018/19 season (when he made his debut) to reach the 50-goal milestone in Serie A (51). He also scored his second league hat-trick. His first was against Crotone, also at the San Siro on 3 January 2021.
BARELLA SETS A NEW RECORD PLUS HANDANOVIC AND BASTONI STATS
It was a complete performance for Nicolo Barella. The Nerazzurri midfielder provided two magical assists for Lautaro’s opening two goals. He now has nine Serie A assists, a new personal best in the league surpassing his tally of seven last campaign.
Inter confirmed their status as the highest-scoring team in Serie A but they also finished the match with a clean sheet thanks to a disciplined defensive performance.
Against Salernitana, Alessandro Bastoni celebrated his 100th appearance in all competitions for Inter whilst Samir Handanovic appeared for the 542nd time in Serie A, becoming the eighth-highest appearance-maker in Serie A history, surpassing Roberto Mancini.
GOSENS' IMMEDIATE IMPACT AND DZEKO’S WORK ETHIC
Robin Gosens made an immediate impact for the Nerazzurri in his first Serie A appearance for the club with a perfect assist for Dzeko’s goal.
The Bosnian striker was involved in three goals in a single Serie A match for the fifth time in his career and a first with Inter.
FIVES AGAINST SALERNITANA
Inter are the first team to achieve a 10-0 aggregate score against a single opponent in Serie A (Salernitana) since Fiorentina managed the feat against Torino in the 1958/59 campaign (6-0, 4-0).
The Nerazzurri scored after shooting 58 times at goal without finding the back of the net in Serie A. This was their longest run of shots without a goal since February-March 2012 when they struck 68 times without scoring.
