MILAN – In the sixth episode of Careers, Felipe Caicedo looks back at his life and career in an emotional interview that explores his journey on the path to becoming a footballer.
Careers will be free to watch for all DAZN Italy subscribers in the on-demand section. Nerazzurri fans will also have the opportunity to watch the episode on the club’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts.
Here's a selection of the Ecuadorian's comments:
“I took part in a reality show, where kids came from all over the country. We competed against each other and the winner’s prize was the possibility to travel to Argentina and make it with the pros. I was one of the lucky ones and I spent three months with Boca Juniors. That was the start of my career.
“I played for Manchester City when I was 19 until I turned 21. It was a wonderful time in my life. The club and my goals changed during my time there: from fighting in mid-table to pushing to win every trophy available. I learned a lot at City and my team-mates helped me to grow and develop as a footballer.
“Espanyol was an equally wonderful and difficult challenge. That year my daughter was born, so it is a very fond time for me. My daughter’s birth changed my life. It made me more mature. Thanks to my wife and my daughter I was able to find that balance in life that I was missing.
“I often see this picture. It’s a great photograph - I get goosebumps every time I see it. I remember this game as if it were yesterday. We were losing against Juventus and then in the 93rd minute I scored a goal. That was a special match. Simone Inzaghi is a coach who has really supported me. He’s helped me develop into the player that I am today and I’m very grateful to him. He always looks for the best in his players.
“'Caicedo time' started as a saying because I kept scoring late goals thanks to my physical conditioning. I always try and maintain my concentration until the very end of a match and I think that’s one of my best qualities: I never give up on the football pitch and I always look to score and help the team when they rely on me.”
