Marcelo Brozovic has been named as UEFA Man of the match for last night's game between Inter and Sheriff – his second of the season after our Group D opener against Real Madrid at San Siro.
An Inter player has claimed the award in all three fixtures played so far, with Milan Skriniar the winner after Shakhtar v Inter.
Marcelo was replaced by Stefano Sensi in the 85th minute against Sheriff – a game the Nerazzurri won 3-1 thanks to goals by Edin Dzeko, Arturo Vidal and Stefan de Vrij – but before then produced his usual solid, skilful display.
The Croat had 111 touches, completed 89% of his passes – with 54 passes in the opposition half - put in four crosses and created two goal-scoring opportunities. Defensively, he won three tackles, made five blocks and regained possession 14 times.
In three Champions League appearances this season, Brozovic has 92% passing accuracy and has covered 31.69 km, averaging 10.57 km per game.
Speaking to Mediaset after collecting his Man of the match award, Brozovic said: “This was a win we really needed. We got caught on the counter a few times too many, especially in the first half, and that's something we have to work on. We must try to stop conceding in every match. Hopefully these three points will mark the turning point for us but now we have to focus on our game on Sunday.”
