MILAN - South American national teams were involved in 2022 World Cup qualifiers on Thursday night, with Alexis Sanchez, Matias Vecino and Joaquin Correa getting some action for their respective countries.
Argentina drew 0-0 in Asuncion against Paraguay. In Lautaro Martinez’s absence, Lionel Scaloni's team took to the field with Joaquin Correa starring up front alongside Lionel Messi. The Nerazzurri striker was replaced in the 76th minute by Julian Alvarez, having missed some good chances.
Matias Vecino’s Uruguay also drew 0-0 against Colombia in Montevideo. Inter’s midfielder started the match and played the full 90 minutes, in an exciting game which was only kept goalless by David Ospina and Fernando Muslera’s goalkeeping prowess.
Chile fell to a 2-0 defeat to Peru, harming their chances of reaching the World Cup in Qatar. Alexis Sanchez played the whole game, while Arturo Vidal was ruled out through suspension.
