INTER STATS | 13 straight wins at San Siro, decisive Darmian and... the woodwork

MILAN - The win over Verona, which came thanks to Matteo Darmian's goal, allowed Inter to not only return to winning ways after two consecutive draws but, most importantly, climb to 79 points with only five games left until the end of the season. Another step towards our objective, which brings with it a series of interesting figures and statistics.

13 CONSECUTIVE HOME WINS AND NARROW MARGINS OF VICTORY

The Nerazzurri march on at San Siro: they've now won 13 consecutive matches at home in Serie A. This is only the second time in history that Inter have achieved this feat, the first time coming at the end of the 2010/2011 season.

Inter currently have the best defence in the league (29 goals conceded) and the second-best attack (72 goals, Atalanta have 78 after scoring five against Bologna). Against Verona, it was the fourth consecutive game that Inter have won at home via a single goal: three 1-0 wins (against Atalanta, Cagliari and Verona) and a 2-1 victory against Sassuolo. The last time that Inter managed to win a league match by at least two goals at the Meazza was back on 28 February, when they ran out 3-0 winners over Genoa. In the last nine league matchdays, when also taking away games into consideration – 7 wins and 2 draws – all of the Nerazzurri's successes came via a single goal, and in only three of those nine matches did Inter score more than one goal: against Parma, Torino and Sassuolo.

Inter have averaged 1.17 goals per game in their last six league matches (seven goals in this period), after scoring an average of 2.5 in their previous eight fixtures (20 goals).

DARMIAN DECISIVE ONCE AGAIN

Just like against Cagliari, it was Matteo Darmian who decided the match against Verona, popping up to score in the 76th minute (his goal against the Sardinians came with 77 minutes on the clock). Both goals came from an Achraf Hakimi assist, bringing him to a total of six goals and six assists in the league: only Robin Gosens boasts a better record in all of Europe’s top five leagues.

Hakimi also struck the post from an incredible free kick: Inter have now hit the woodwork eight times in their last six league games, at least five more than any other side in Serie A.

Darmian scored after coming off the bench, breaking the deadlock in the process. The last time that a substitute came on to score with the game goalless was in January 2020, when Bastoni found the net against Lecce.

It was the fourth goal of the season for Darmian, and his third in the league, a personal best for him.
