— Mar 21st 2021We're Brothers Universally United: reaffirming our values on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
It’s reflected in our name and it’s in our nature: we are and always will be against any form of discrimination. Respect, unity, being a family: this is what we’ve stood for ever since we were founded, values that are the driving force behind our BUU – Brothers Universally United campaign.
This is our history, our present and, above all, our future. For this reason, in order to continue to raise awareness among young people about combating racial discrimination, the Club organised a virtual meeting with the boys and girls involved in our Elite Academy on Thursday 18 March to discuss this important issue. Vice President Javier Zanetti and first-team player Matteo Darmian both took part in the initiative, which was carried out in collaboration with Linkem, Inter’s Connecting Partner. They talked about this subject with the youngsters and listened to the words of Saidou Oumar Daffe, a player who was a victim of racism. The meeting also saw the involvement of CONI President Giovanni Malagò and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, with a video message being recorded for the young Nerazzuri players. Francesco Sortino, Linkem's Chief Marketing & External Relations Officer, also took part.
“For Inter, combatting all discrimination is of utmost importance,” said Javier Zanetti. “This meeting demonstrates how the values of inclusion and brotherhood have always been at the heart of the Club since its foundation. When you see racism, it’s vital not to remain indifferent: you need to vigorously fight it, even when you haven’t directly been the victim of it. This is the only way to change things.”
Matteo Darmian, meanwhile, had the following to say: “It saddens me that racism is still a prevalent problem in 2021. It’s important to continue to fight it, not only through words but with concrete actions too. It’s also vital to raise awareness about the issue among the youngest members of our society.”
