INTER STATS | Seven straight wins and a third goal for Skriniar

— Mar 9th 2021The Nerazzurri statistics after victory in the league against Atalanta
Seven straight wins for Inter in the league following a 0-0 draw with Udinese: the Nerazzurri have overcome Benevento, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Lazio, Genoa, Parma and Atalanta in their last seven games. Seven matches with only two goals conceded and confirmation of the best attack in the league, with 63 goals scored.
Last night’s three points saw Inter regain their six-point lead over second-place AC Milan: Conte’s side have collected 62 points from their opening 26 fixtures. In the three-points-per-win era, only in 2006/07 have Inter travelled at a faster pace (70 points after 26 matches).
The win over Atalanta was Inter's tenth consecutive home victory in the league: the last time this happened was in 2011 (May 2011, 13 wins).
FROM SHOTS TO BIG MATCHES
Two big chances for Lukaku didn’t end up in the statistics as the Belgian was met by last-minute interventions just as he was about to pull the trigger. Therefore, the stats will show just one shot on target on Sportiello’s goal, which was Milan Skriniar’s successful finish. For the fourth time in the league and the second time against Atalanta this season, Inter ended the first half without a shot on target.
The Nerazzurri managed to win a match with just one shot on target for the first time since April 2009, when they did so against Udinese. But what matters in the end is the three points: Atalanta had only lost one of their last 22 away games in Serie A (at Napoli, in October).
To underline the Nerazzurri’s march in the so-called big matches, Inter are the team that has earned the most points (18 in nine matches) in fixtures between the teams currently in the top seven of the table.
SKRINIAR'S GOAL AND GOALS BY DEFENDERS
Milan Skriniar scored his third goal of the season, all of which came from corners. This time, the goal was scored with his feet: this last happened in October 2017 against Sampdoria, a season which ended with four goals for the defender.
Only Atalanta (16) and Leipzig (15) have scored more goals through defenders than Inter (14) in the Top Five European leagues this season, while the Nerazzurri and Leipzig are the only two teams to boast three defenders with at least three goals. In Inter's case, Skriniar and D’Ambrosio have both found the net three times, while Hakimi has six goals to his name.
