Inter Stats | Lukaku's lightning - quick goal and the Nerazzurri's form

MILAN – There are plenty of facts and figures to cover following Inter’s 3-0 win against Genoa, so let’s do some analysis work!

INTER’S FORM

Inter continue to march on, with the Nerazzurri now unbeaten in eight in the league. Antonio Conte’s men are leading the way in Serie A with 56 points from 24 games (17 wins, five draws, two defeats). You can view the table here.

Inter’s 3-0 success over Genoa was the Nerazzurri’s sixth win in their last seven league fixtures. It was also their ninth consecutive home victory: they last achieved this in the 2010/11 season, when they racked up 13 successive wins at San Siro, the last of which came in May 2011.

Inter’s consistency is also clear from their attacking and defensive numbers: in their last seven Serie A outings, Antonio Conte’s team have scored 17 and conceded just once (when Lazio found the net via a deflected strike). Up until their 2-0 home victory over Juventus, Inter had only kept five clean sheets in 24 matches.

The Nerazzurri’s three-goal haul against Genoa once again demonstrated the team’s attacking prowess. Inter have scored the most goals in Serie A this season: 60.

LUKAKU, A LIGHTNING-QUICK GOAL

This season, he’d already found the net after just 28 seconds in Benevento vs. Inter. While the Inter’s fastest-ever goal remains the one scored by Gianfranco Matteoli (10 seconds, Inter 1-0 Cesena - 27 November 1988), Lukaku holds the Nerazzurri record in Serie A when it comes to matches played from 2004 onwards. Against Genoa, the Belgian got on the scoresheet after just 32 seconds.

It was yet another important goal for Lukaku, who also provided an assist for Inter’s second and was involved in the third. He’s now found the net 58 times for the Nerazzurri, and his goals have contributed to 47 points in Serie A since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Genoa are the team that Lukaku has had the most scoring success against: he’s netted six times against the Rossoblù.

LUKAKU AND LAUTARO, WHAT A DUO

Lukaku’s goal came about following a give-and-go with Lautaro Martinez: the two strikers have contributed to ten of Inter’s last 14 goals in Serie A.

In 2021, both are among the players with the most goal contributions (goals+assists) in the Italian top flight. The top four in this regard are as follows: Lukaku (eleven), Muriel (ten), Lautaro and Cristiano Ronaldo (nine). Lautaro now registered five assists this season. His 13-goal haul means he’s been involved in 18 goals, a record for the Argentine in a single Serie A campaign.

WINS AGAINST GENOA, DARMIAN'S GOAL... 

Inter's 3-0 win against Genoa saw them beat a single opposition side for the sixth consecutive time in Serie A without conceding a goal, a first for the Nerazzurri in their history. Yesterday’s success was Inter’s eighth successive home victory over the Rossoblù in the Italian top flight. Previously, they’d only achieved this between May 1956 and February 1965.

Matteo Darmian made it 2-0 at San Siro. It was the Italian’s second goal of the season (after previously netting against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Champions League) and his first league goal for the Nerazzurri. Prior to his strike yesterday afternoon, Darmian had last found the net in Serie A in July 2020 (for Parma away to Brescia). His last goal on home turf had come on 26 April 2015, when Torino beat Juventus 2-1.

Another noteworthy fact is that all of the goalscorers yesterday are former Manchester United players. Indeed, Alexis Sanchez completed the scoring and bagged his third goal of the season (all of them have come in the league) in the process. The Chilean also found the net against Genoa last season after coming on as a substitute.
