MILAN – Matteo Darmian bagged his first Serie A goal in an Inter shirt today, thus making a significant contribution to the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 victory over Genoa. “We knew it was an important game and I think this was clear from how we approached it,” he told Inter TV. “We wanted to score straight away, we went out on to the pitch absolutely determined and with the right desire. We could have finished it off in the first half, but we did so after the restart.”
The Nerazzurri number 36 made sure that the Nerazzurri didn’t miss the suspended Hakimi: “It’s important to always be ready, there are still lots of games and it’s a team effort. It’s not a straightforward season due to Covid, injuries and suspensions, so we know that we all have to contribute. It’s essential for everyone to feel important if we are to achieve certain objectives. We’re a united group and have grown in many ways. We get along well and I think that this is obvious out on the pitch.”
And finally, as regards his goal: “I tried to hit the ball at the right time, it was a crucial moment to finish off the game. I’m not a natural in front of goal, but I’m happy to have helped the team. We have to continue on this path, there are still 14 games to go and we want to fight until the very last day.”
