Throwback: Inter's best wins in the #DerbyMilano continued

Throwback is a journey through the history of the #DerbyMilano: 13 iconic meetings between Inter and AC Milan, all with the Nerazzurri as the away team – as will be the case at 20:45 CET on Sunday 21 February (Serie A matchday 23). Do you remember these games? You can now watch the second episode on Inter TV’s channel on DAZN. Throwback is a two-part journey through the most emotional matches of the 80s and our best days. This time around, we’ll be starting from the Nerazzurri’s thrilling 4-3 victory in 2006 and finishing with the 2-0 win last season.

28/10/2006 AC Milan 3-4 Inter: Crespo, Stankovic, Ibrahimovic, Seedorf, Materazzi, Gilardino, Kakà – Pump it (The Black Eyed Peas)

“YOU ALWAYS PLAY TO WIN” – This was one of the most spectacular Derbies in recent times: seven goals, four for the Nerazzurri, some brilliant football on display and incredible players in action. On the eve of the match, Mancini mentioned that “you always play to win”. And this is precisely what Inter did, getting the better of Ancelotti’s Rossoneri thanks to goals from Crespo, Stankovic, Ibrahimovic and Materazzi. The Dragon’s performance and celebration were particularly noteworthy.

29/08/2009 AC Milan 0-4 Inter: Motta, Milito, Maicon, Stankovic – Storia di un bellimbusto (Elio e le storie tese)

“I PUT THE CHERRY ON THE CAKE” – The cherry on the cake in this case was Stankovic’s right-footed strike from just over 35 yards out, with Thiago Motta, Milito and Maicon having already scored three gems before this. Simply sublime. It was also a match that saw Wesley Sneijder make a delightful Nerazzurri debut.

15/01/2012 AC Milan 0-1 Inter: Milito – Sempre noi (Max Pezzali)

“IT’S ALWAYS… HIM!” – Sempre noi (‘Always us’) is a song sung by Nerazzurri fan Max Pezzali and which accompanied Inter’s victory away to AC Milan in January 2012. At the time, ‘always him’ were words that were often used when talking about the star of that Derby, El Principe Diego Milito.

07/10/2012 AC Milan 0-1: Inter Samuel – Per sempre (Nina Zilli)

“3 MINUTES” – is the time it took for Walter Samuel to decide the first Derby showdown in 2012/13. A headed goal and unbridled joy for the Nerazzurri Wall, who enjoyed an almost perfect record against the Rossoneri.

17/03/2019 AC Milan 2-3 Inter: Vecino, de Vrij, Bakayoko, Lautaro (r), Musacchio – Senza Pensieri (Rovazzi)

“1, 2, 3” – Vecino’s opener, De Vrij’s header and Lautaro Martinez’s penalty. The Dutchman’s first goal against AC Milan (he’s scored two in the Derby), tension until the end and Danilo D’Ambrosio’s remarkable clearance in stoppage time: a dramatic Derby win that saw Inter move ahead of AC Milan in the table.

21/09/2019 AC Milan 0-2 Inter: Brozovic, Lukaku – Verdura (Pinguini Tattici Nucleari)

“THE NERAZZURRI’S NIGHT” – It almost seems like it took place in another era, but it was a fantastic night for the Nerazzurri when Inter last faced AC Milan away from home. The match was decided by Brozovic’s opener and Lukaku’s third goal in an Inter shirt and first in the Derby.
