The 2-2 draw at the Olimpico between Roma and Inter brings the Nerazzurri to 37 points in the league, thanks to their fourth draw of the season. As always, the clash with the Giallorossi was a spectacle with plenty of goals on show.
SIXTH DRAW IN A ROW BETWEEN ROMA AND INTER
Inter and Roma have drawn all of their last six matches in Serie A. This statistic is even more remarkable when considering the last three matches at the Olimpico have all ended 2-2. Two seasons ago, it was Kolarov’s penalty (at that time playing for Roma) that set up the draw; last July, a penalty once again made it 2-2, this time from Lukaku in the 90th minute. This time it was Mancini who scored the goal that sealed yet another draw in the fixture that has produced the most goals in the history of Serie A.
The last time that two teams drew six in a row over consecutive league seasons was in 1995, with Napoli and Torino the two teams in question then.
SECOND-HALF GOALS Inter confirm their status as having the best attack in Serie A with 43 goals scored: of these, 30 have come in the second half. Conversely, Roma are the side who have scored most in the first half, with 23 goals. Inter once again earned points after the interval yesterday: they have now picked up 17 points through their second-half efforts compared to their first-half results.
HAKIMI’S PERSONAL GOAL TALLY
Hakimi scored his sixth goal of the season, thus breaking his own personal goalscoring record in a single season. His best campaign for goals scored before this was last year with Dortmund, where he finished the season on five goals. Now with six – all in Serie A – he is this season’s highest scoring defender among Europe’s top five leagues.
Before Achraf Hakimi, the last Inter defender to score at least six goals in one season in Serie A was Maicon in 2009/10.
HEADED GOALS AND BROZOVIC’S FEET
This was Milan Skriniar’s second goal of the season, which all in all was extremely similar to his first, which came in Verona: a corner from Brozovic headed into the net with power and precision. Skriniar brings his personal goal tally to six in Serie A, with the four before this season all coming from headers.
Headers remain a fundamental aspect of Inter’s game: the Nerazzurri are the team with the most headed goals this season, nine in fact. Eight of their 43 goals have come directly from corner kicks, no team in Serie A has done better so far.
Brozovic has now provided three assists from set pieces this season; the Croatian also set up Hakimi in this match to give Inter a temporary lead. For the second time in Serie A, Marcelo registered two assists in the same match, having done so previously in May 2018 against Udinese.
