MILAN - "My objective is to help the team build something important. I think that Inter are going in the right direction and I needed a new challenge." Upon his arrival in Milan, Romelu Lukaku was presented as a Nerazzurri player; exactly one year ago today, he began his Inter journey.
On 8 August 2019, the love story between Inter and Big Rom began. It's a combination that's growing stronger by the day to the sound of goals, smiles and records. The Nerazzurri's number 9 needed very little time to settle into Italian football. As he did for West Brom, Everton and Manchester United, Romelu scored on his debut for the Club with his first shot in Serie A.
Lukaku hasn't stopped since: 20 goals in hist first 30 league games, including a #DerbyMilano double this season (scoring both home and away), equalling Ronaldo's record for away goals (15) in a debut season.
But not only that. With his goal against Getafe in Gelsenkirchen, Romelu hit 30 goals for the season, a new personal best and another comparison with a Nerazzurri legend: the last Inter play to score 30 in a single season was Samuel Eto'o in 2010/11.
He completes the package with five assists, which mean that Big Rom has been directly involved in 33% of the team's goals this season. The groupd comes first though, and Lukaku knows this full well: "I want to continue to help my teammates, I alwasy fight to contribute to the team and to win."
Inter fans know and are sure that these 366 days are just the beginning of a story that still has some fascinating pages to be written.
