MILAN – Inter’s global crowdfunding campaign #TogetherAsATeam drew to a successful close on Tuesday. The initiative saw the Nerazzurri family come together to show an act of solidarity in the fight against Coronavirus by donating funds to aid research for a vaccine.
The fans made a big contribution with around 3,500 donations raising a total of €108,000 via the Facebook fundraiser launched on Saturday 14 March. That figure supplemented the €500,000 donated by everyone at the club – first-team players, coaching staff and employees – and a €50,000 donation by the PUPI Foundation, making a grand total of €658,000.
All the proceeds will go to the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences at the Luigi Sacco Hospital of Milan, a leading centre for infectious diseases and epidemiological emergencies. The aim of the donation – organised in collaboration with the Francesca Rava Foundation - NPH Italia Onlus – is to fund research activities at the hospital, which is currently playing a key role internationally in the development of a vaccine for Covid-19.
The #TogetherAsATeam fundraising campaign is the latest in a series of initiatives organised by Suning and FC Internazionale Milano to support the fight against the spread of Coronavirus – first in China and then in Italy. In aid of the Chinese people, 300,000 masks were donated to the city of Wuhan and the Nerazzurri players took to the pitch with a patch dedicated to China on their jerseys during the recent Milan Derby. In Italy, Suning and Inter have donated €100,000 to the Luigi Sacco Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences in Milan. They are also providing the National Department of Civil Protection with 300,000 masks and other medical products, which will be sent from Beijing in the coming days.
