MILAN – Romelu Lukaku has scored 23 goals in 35 games for Inter so far. His first came in the Nerazzurri’s opening game of the season against Lecce: the goalkeeper was unable to hold Lautaro’s strike and the Belgian man was left with the simple task of tapping in his first goal at San Siro.
Away from home, Inter’s No.9 has netted twelve goals so far this campaign: no other player in the Top Five European Leagues has bagged more on the road during the 2019/20 season.
His first goal away from San Siro came against Cagliari in a game where his strike partner Lautaro also netted to hand Inter the three points. It was a sign of things to come: along with Bayern Munich's attacking duo of Lewandowski and Gnabry, this partnership has been the most prolific in away matches in the Top Five European leagues during the 2019/20 campaign.
Lukaku was perfectly placed as he headed home his first #DerbyMilano goal, the second time he found the net for Inter away from home. He would go on to score in the same manner in the return fixture between the cross-city rivals – the Nerazzurri’s fourth of the game – to seal a fantastic comeback win.
The Belgian striker has bagged four braces away from San Siro in the league. His first came against Sassuolo as he netted twice in seven minutes to put the Nerazzurri firmly in the driving seat. And then there was his double against Bologna and his ice-cool finish from the penalty spot to win it for Antonio Conte’s men in the 91st minute.
His performance against Napoli was magnificent: given that Inter hadn’t won at the San Paolo since October 1997, the two goals he scored were of historic importance too. Finally, he found the net twice in the Nerazzurri’s victory over Udinese.
