Esposito: "A fantastic feeling, but I'm especially happy with the win"

MILAN - Youth but also ferocity and freshness: Sebastiano Esposito played 31 minutes against Borussia Dortmund and in that time he played with immense desire, winning a penalty and providing an important contribution towards the Nerazzurri’s victory over the Germans. Esposito made his Inter debut last season against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, becoming the youngest Inter player to make his debut in a European competition and he continues to break records at the tender age of just 17 years and 113 days.

He is youngest Inter player to take part in a Champions League or a European Cup match since Giuseppe Bergomi in 1981 (17 years and 72 days) while he becomes the undisputed youngest Inter player to feature in the Champions Leauge ahead of Balotelli, Santon, Biraghi and Coutinho. Moreover, he is the second youngest player to play a role in this season’s Champion’s League, only behind Barcelona’s Ansu Fati.

The Nerazzurri youngster spoke to Inter TV about the match: “It was a fantastic feeling: debuting in the Champions League is the dream of every child that plays football. I’m happy because I made my debut but I’m also happy because we won. Prior to coming on, the Coach asked me to give my all and play using my head.”

Esposito earned a penalty for the Nerazzurri, from which Antonio Conte’s side had the chance to make it 2-0: “I moved in between the two defenders and perhaps took the ball slightly too far, but I managed to earn the penalty after getting in front of Hummels. Playing with great champions is a great feeling. I needed to attack the space in behind when we had the ball in midfield because the opposition was a bit tired at that point. Thank you for all the compliments, but I still need to work hard. I’m happy and need to stay humble, this is something that my family has taught me.”
