MILAN - “This is a goal that in 10-15 years I will tell my kids about.” Coming against Genoa at the Ferraris, Dejan Stankovic scored an unforgettable goal – a first-time right-footed volley from midfield. After the game, he was even able to deconstruct it with ease: “I moved to the right, hoping that Ameilia (Genoa’s goalkeeper) would make a mistake. The ball then fell to me and I didn’t think twice, even though I could’ve looked stupid. Instead, it was a masterpiece.” An extraordinary goal, and one that needed a real genius to even try it. It took place on 17 October 2009, with Deki scoring Inter’s third during a 5-0 win. Cambiasso, Balotelli, Vieira and Maicon were the other names on the scoresheet.
Amazingly, Stankovic proved that this was no fluke two years later in the Champions League when he scored a similar strike against Schalke. As for the 5-0 victory against Genoa, this remains Inter’s biggest win away to the Rossoblu. It’s always a tough trip when playing in Liguria, yet the following season Ibrahimovic also lit up the Ferraris with a sumptuous lob. Meanwhile, in October 2010, Muntari inspired another Nerazzurri win with a long-range strike that beat Eduardo.
