MILAN - Following their recent draw against Napoli, Luciano Spalletti’s side will be back in action this Sunday against Sampdoria at 12:30 CET. In collaboration with Opta, here are all the stats that you need to know.
There have been a total of 121 previous meetings between Sampdoria and Inter in Serie A, with the Nerazzurri boasting a much better record of 64 wins to the opposition’s 20 - there have also been 37 draws. Inter have won 27 of their 60 away matches against Sampdoria, with the Ligurian outfit succeeding on 12 occasions - they’ve also drawn 21 matches. Interestingly, Inter are the team who Sampdoria have lost most matches against (64) and conceded most goals (217) against in Serie A. Taking into account the timing of this Sunday’s match, Inter have found the back of the net in 14 of their last 15 lunchtime kick-offs in Serie A - the only exception being a 1-0 defeat to Sassuolo back in January 2016.
Inter have kept a clean sheet in their last two league matches, although they’ve haven’t achieved three on the trot in Serie A since December 2016. With Inter notably being the team who’ve hit the woodwork more than anyone else this season (16), Sampdoria, in fact, have struck it the least (three).
Mauro Icardi played 31 matches for Sampdoria in Serie A, scoring 10 goals. The Argentine also bagged a brace in his first and most recent match against his former side. Should he score this Sunday, then he will reach a personal 100-goal landmark in the top Italian tier, duly becoming the sixth-youngest ever player to do so (surpassing Cavani).
Milan Skriniar made his Serie A debut with Sampdoria in April 2016, making 38 league appearances for the Blucerchiati. Skriniar has hit the woodwork four times in Serie A this season (two more than any other defender) and as a whole, only Insigne has hit the post or crossbar on more occasions (five).
Éder is another player who has a Blucerchiati background, previously making 112 Serie A appearances for the club, scoring 40 goals. He is 12th in the list of Samp’s all-time top scorers in Serie A, level with Cucchiaroni and Flachi.
Looking at both coaches, Marco Giampaolo and Luciano Spalletti, there has yet to be a single draw between the two in Serie A - with the Inter boss just edging it with five wins to four. Spalletti has triumphed in 10 of his 18 matches as a coach against Sampdoria in Serie A, also drawing and losing four respectively.
