Pioli: "Too many mistakes in possession"

TURIN - Stefano Pioli highlighted a lack of precision in his side's passing and finishing as contributing factors to Inter's draw with Torino on Saturday night.

Speaking after the game in Turin, the coach explained: "Torino played a very aggressive game but we were expecting that. It took us too long to get the measure of them and we made too many mistakes when trying to play our way up the pitch.

“We had three or four very good chances late on. We kept pushing for a winner until the 96th minute but sadly couldn't get one so of course we're disappointed.

“It's very regretful because we have this huge target we're chasing. We're trying to pull off what would be an incredible comeback and we know we need to win them all, but precisely for that reason we should be even more determined right from the off.

“We've been playing very well recently and I expected our finishing to be a touch sharper today. It was never going to be an easy game but we managed to fashion plenty of openings.

"We made a few too many technical mistakes and that means we weren't totally focused. A team like ours can't afford to make so many mistakes when building moves – that's where we need to up our game. It's a shame because we did create the chances to make score a third but our finishing wasn't perfect."

Asked about comments made by Piero Ausilio before kick-off, Pioli added: “I'm very happy to have the club's confidence and support. Clearly we're not going to be happy tonight because we wanted to win. I know some people are worried about my future but I'm happy living in the present and I'm pleased with the work we're doing.

“Sadly we've missed an opportunity today but now we must get ready for our next game and make the most of the international break to recharge our batteries.”

Finally, on Suning's ambition: “Suning are looking to build something big here. They want to invest not only in the team but also in the facilities to make Inter great.”
