The first Milan derby after Erick Thohir’s arrival was sealed by a piece of magic from the Argentinian

MILAN – In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re revisiting our win over cross-town rivals AC Milan three years ago. The Nerazzurri ran out 1-0 winners, thanks to a clever back-heel flick from Rodrigo Palacio.

Played three years ago to this day, the Milan derby was Inter’s last game before the Christmas break. The Nerazzurri, at the time managed by Walter Mazzarri, came up against a Milan side led by Massimiliano Allegri.

With the game deadlocked at 0-0, it took something truly special to separate the sides. That moment came after 86 minutes. Yuto Nagatomo played the ball to Jonathan on the right-hand side; he then released Fredy Guarin towards the byline. The Colombian played a low first-time cross from the right, which Rodrigo Palacio met with a delightful back heel. His effort beat goalkeeper Christian Abbiati and gave Inter a precious 1-0 win. The victory came in the first Milan derby following the arrival of Erick Thohir.
