Career Story

Football in destiny. When you are born in a small town on the outskirts of Piacenza and you have a brother not even three years older than you, you dream of one thing with him: football. The Piacenza shirt, the autographs of those centre-forwards who, for those whose rooms were wallpapered with red and white flags and scarves, were idols to be followed, to be photographed. San Nicolò: the Trebbia river that divides the Galleana, five kilometres from home, the place that inspired the Inzaghi brothers. Between walks in the woods in search of mushrooms and days spent fishing, the ball always won out in the end. Everywhere and in every way. In the backyard or in the attic, on grass or asphalt.

Simone and a constant challenge: scoring goals. In the rookie team of San Nicolò, he finished a season with 92 goals. 92! His goal was always clear: to become a footballer. So Piacenza was the natural place to go for the first fulfilment of a childhood dream. In addition to the cost of the ticket, San Nicolò received 40 balls, training shirts and new goal nets on the day he said goodbye to Simone.

Tales and memories that trace Simone Inzaghi's career as a footballer. The apprenticeship on provincial pitches between Carpi, Novara, Brescello and Lumezzane, before the expected success with his Piacenza team. 15 goals in his first Serie A season in 1998, at the age of 22. Then came the move to Lazio, where he scored heavily and won the historic Scudetto in 2000. Inzaghi has won three Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups, is the highest scorer in Lazio's European Cup history and became the first Italian player to score four goals in a Champions League match (14 March 2000, Lazio 5-1 Marseille), goals that also earned him three caps for the Italian national team.

After ending his playing career in 2010, Inzaghi immediately moved to the dugout: in 2010-2011 he began his adventure as a youth coach at Lazio. In 2014, he became coach of the Primavera team (2 Italian Cups and a Super Cup) and was promoted to the first team at the end of the season in April 2016. 7 games to end the season and be confirmed for the following year. He coached Lazio for five more years: a Coppa Italia triumph in 2019, two Italian Super Cups (2017 and 2019) and fourth place in 2020 with a return to the Champions League for the biancocelesti.

After more than 20 years in a symbiotic relationship with Lazio, Inzaghi will take over as Inter coach in the summer of 2021. Over the past three years, the coach from Piacenza has written important pages in the Nerazzurri's history. Work, analysis, study and updating are the keys to Inter's success, and under Inzaghi's tutelage, the club has won games and set new records. The Nerazzurri would go on to win three Italian Super Cups and two Italian Cups, with Inzaghi becoming the coach to win the most finals in Inter's history. One of the main architects of the 2022/23 European campaign, which culminated in the Champions League final in Istanbul, Inzaghi, along with his staff, contributed to Inter's extraordinary year this season: the Nerazzurri coach became the coach with the most wins in his first 300 Serie A games, surpassing Ancelotti and Allegri. Results that also saw Simone Inzaghi become the fourth coach in Inter's history to win at least 100 games in all competitions, joining Helenio Herrera, Roberto Mancini and Giovanni Trapattoni.

An extraordinary team effort with Simone Inzaghi at the helm, conductor of a wonderful group of players, all playing to the score written by the Piacenza coach. A magnificent symphony that led Inter to their 20th Scudetto, the second of the stars, at the end of a magical and thrilling season in which the Nerazzurri recorded memorable victories over all their direct rivals and set magnificent records. 94 points, 19 more than second-placed AC Milan, beaten in a decisive derby five days before the end of the season: a moment that will forever remain in Inter's history and that marked the beginning of a month of celebrations and unforgettable emotions for all the Nerazzurri fans in Milan, Italy and around the world. A triumph in which the signature of Simone Inzaghi, who became the 12th coach to win a Scudetto from the Inter bench, was undoubtedly one of the most important.
