— YesterdayMattia Zanchetta decided the match against Bayer Leverkusen: Inter finish the League Phase of the UEFA Youth League in first place with maximum points
The final matchday of the League Phase of the UEFA Youth League finished with a win for the nerazzurri sealing a perfect run. A run of 18 points earned after six wins in six matches, including qualification being sealed two rounds early. Inter will discover their opponent of the Round of 16 match, which will be played at home, on 20 December following the draw in Nyon. The last European away match of the year was against Bayer Leverkusen and decided thanks to the goal from Mattia Zanchetta coming just after the hour mark, in a hard fought match which included Vanzulli's full-debut.
Inter started well, after an initial phase of working the opponent out, Motta attempted with a shot in the fifth minute but his shot went just over the bar. The home side responded with a long range effort from Mensah which went wide of Taho's goal. The clearest chance came in the 45th minute when Lavelli hit the post after timing his run to latch onto a well-placed pass from Topalovic. After Inter's good chance, Bayer became more and more aggressive, with a series of good chances created by the number 30 of the home side, Owen.
The second half began with a double attempt from Motta and Zouin, setting the pace for Inter to score the winning goal in the 63rd minute. The match was decided by a stunning half-volley from Mattia Zanchetta at the edge of the box, following some good Nerazzurri play. Zouin's work down the right flank, as well as some deflections on the way, set the number 4 up for the decisive strike. The game heated up and Taho was forced into making some important saves to halt Bayer Leverkusen, as they tried to find the equaliser through Alajbegovic and Natali. In the 84th minute, Maye redirected a cross giving Owen the chance to score but Taho intervened just in time. Taho capped off his brilliant performance with a final save from Alajbegovic's curling right-footed shot.
Inter held firm and stayed strong in defence, achieving a result which allowed for the side to collect their sixth win in as many games in the competition as well as 18 points.
