Transfer news

There are children who dream of becoming great strikers. Others, meanwhile, are born to play in goal, and this most certainly applies to Yann Sommer.
Born on 17 December 1988 in Morges, Switzerland, Sommer grew up in Basel, the hometown of Roger Federer, a close friend of his. Football and the goalposts were always part of his destiny: his father and uncle were both goalkeepers. From his first training session with a football school at the age of four, Yann stood between the sticks, with his back facing the net that the other children wanted to score in.
After spending several years in the youth setups of Herrliberg and Concordia Basel, Sommer moved to FC Basel in 2005 when he was 16. However, Yann was still too young to be part of the RotBlau squad; therefore, in 2007, he was sent out on loan to FC Vaduz, a Liechtenstein team in the second division of Swiss football.
He remained there for a season and a half, winning promotion and making his debut in the Swiss Super League before returning to FC Basel. After another brief spell at Grasshoppers, Sommer finally established himself at the RotBlau and went on to make 170 appearances across four very successful seasons where he won four league titles.
Yann was ready to take off for good, and, in 2014, he joined German side Borussia Mönchengladbach. He would go on to become an iconic figure for Die Fohlen, with whom he faced Inter during the Champions League group stage in 2020/21.
Sommer, who is passionate about music, cooking, architecture and photography, is a multifaceted character both on and off the pitch. Yann is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, has great reflexes and is also gifted with intuition. Last season, he set a record for the most saves in a Bundesliga match: 19 against Bayern Munich.
After moving to the Bavarians in January 2023, Sommer arrives at Inter having just won the German title for the first time. However, some of his greatest successes have come while wearing the Swiss shirt. Yann has been involved in three World Cups and two European Championships.
Experience, leadership and commitment: these are all qualities that Sommer is now ready to display in Nerazzurri colours.
