EA Sports FC Supercup, the complete guide

The long wait is over: Inter are ready to compete in the 37th edition of the EA Sports FC Supercup, the second to be contested by four sides. It will be held in Saudi Arabia for the fifth time. Simone Inzaghi's side will begin their journey on Thursday 2 January 2025 when they face Atalanta in the semi-final at the Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh, kicking off at 20:00 CET (22.00 local time). The second semi-final will see Juventus play AC Milan. The final will be held on Monday 6 January 2025.

INTER VS. ATALANTA, PREVIOUS FIXTURES

The two sides haven't faced one another in the Supercoppa Italiana. In Serie A, Inter and Atalanta have met 127 times: Inter count 69 wins compared with Atalanta's 24, there have been 34 draws. The Nerazzurri are the side that have beaten La Dea the most times in their Serie A history (69). Inter remain unbeaten in the last 12 games against Atalanta in the league, a record against them in Serie A, and have won all five most recent games including the 4-0 win at San Siro this season. The game was decided by Barella, a brace from Thuram and Djimsiti's own goal on 30 August.

THE FORMAT

The 37th edition of the tournament will be held in Riyadh and will be played with four sides like last year, two direct elimination semi-final games (2 and 3 January 2025) and the final on 6 January 2025. The clubs competing for the EA Sports FC Supercup will be Inter, Italian champions 2023/24, Juventus, Coppa Italia Frecciarossa 2023/24 winners, AC Milan, second-placed side in the league 2023/24 and Atalanta, other Coppa Italia Frecciarossa finalists. The first semi-final will be Inter vs. Atalanta and will be played on Thursday 2 January 2025, the second semi-final will see Juventus play AC Milan on Friday 3 January 2025. The final will take place between the winners of the semis on Monday 6 January 2025.

THE STADIUM

The Supercoppa will be played at the Al-Awwal Park Stadium. The trophy is back in Saudi Arabia after the 2018/19, 2019/20, 2022/23 and 2023/24 editions: in the first instance, Juventus beat AC Milan at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah. In the last two tournaments in Saudi Arabia, Simone Inzaghi's side won the title, beating AC Milan 3-0 in the final and then Napoli 1-0 they next year, having beaten Lazio in the semi.

In general, the Supercoppa will be played outside of Italy for the 14th time. Inter have played four editions abroad in their history: apart from the last two, the Nerazzurri played Lazio in 2009/10 in Beijing and Milan in 2011/12, again in the Chinese capital.

SUPERCOPPA ITALIANA: 12 PARTICIPATIONS AND 8 WINS

This will be Inter's 13th time participating in the Supercoppa Italiana: in the 12 editions played, the Nerazzurri have won the title 8 times. Inter have won the last three editions of the Supercoppa: we beat Juventus 2-1 at San Siro in 2022 and last year in Riyadh we beat AC Milan 3-0. In 2024, Lautaro's goal in the final secured a 1-0 win over Napoli.
