A long, almost endless season. From the league opener in Lecce to the Champions League final in Istanbul. More than 300 days between the beginning and the end of the 2022/2023 football season for Inter, who played 57 official matches. A peculiar season, interrupted for a month and a half by the World Cup in Qatar and which saw the Nerazzurri team lift two trophies, the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia, just as in 2021/2022.
57 matches that have had, in all of them, one common denominator: Lautaro Martinez. The only Nerazzurri player to have played in all 57 matches of the season, an historical Nerazzurri record for an incredible player. On the pitch for every match of the year, the only one in the squad, he was also the season's top scorer: 28 goals in total, his record for inter. Lautaro, who scored in both the Supercoppa and the Coppa Italia final, also crossed the prestigious 100-goal mark in Nerazzurri: he has now reached 102, and is the 11th all-time top scorer in Inter's history.
In this never-ending season Simone Inzaghi has used 25 players, ranging from Lautaro's 57 appearances to the just one for Cordaz, who featured in the last league game against Torino. The most used were Lautaro, followed by Dzeko and Barella (52 appearances), Dumfries (51) and Dimarco (50). Cordaz (1), on the other hand, played the least, followed by Zanotti (2 appearances) and Valentin Carboni (6).
ALL THE PLAYERS USED IN THE 22-23 SEASON
Lautaro 57, Barella 52, Dzeko 52, Dumfries 51, Dimarco 50, Acerbi 49, Calhanoglu 49, Gosens 49, Mkhitaryan 49, Darmian 48, Bastoni 46, Onana 41, Correa 41, Brozovic 40, De Vrij 38, Lukaku 37, Skriniar 31, Asllani 29, Gagliardini 29, D'Ambrosio 24, Bellanova 22, Handanovic 16, Carboni 6, Zanotti 2, Cordaz 1.
SERIE A
In their 38 league matches, Inter collected 23 wins, three draws and 12 defeats. Inzaghi's team, who finished third behind Napoli and Lazio, collected 72 points and had the second best attack in the league, with 71 goals scored. 42 goals were conceded, for an overall goal difference of +29.
There have been 71 goals scored, with an average of 1.9 per game. 31 games in which Inter have scored. 61 of the 71 goals have come from inside the penalty area, 2 goals from direct free kicks (Barella against Udinese, Dimarco against Bologna). Five penalties awarded, four scored. Inter conceded 42 goals, collecting 7 clean sheets along the way.
Lautaro, who played all 38 matches in Serie A, was the Nerazzurri's top scorer: 21 goals, second in the rankings behind Osimhen. He equalled both his record for goals in a single Serie A season, 21 as in 2021/22, and his record for assists, 6 as in 2020/21. The Nerazzurri number 10 is one of four players who has scored more than 20 goals in each of the last two seasons in Europe's top five leagues, along with Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappé. Also with regard to the Serie A, the Argentine striker, after Osimhen, is the player who has had the most shots on target, 53 efforts. Finally, he earned Inter 15 points through his goals. Only Nzola has done better than him in this statistic.
Top-class season from Nicolò Barella, who was awarded as the best midfielder by the Lega Serie A. The Nerazzurri number 23 was one of five midfielders to have collected at least six goals and at least six assists, undoubtedly proving to be one of Simone Inzaghi's most potent offensive weapons. His six goals scored in the league equals his personal record, which came in the 2017/18 season. His great performances are also shown by the 53 chances created for his teammates in open play, fewer only than Vlasic among midfielders.
Although Lautaro collected 38 appearances, the player with the most minutes on the pitch in Serie A for Inter was Barella, with 2,621 minutes play.
