Raffaele Di Gennaro has returned to the Club where it all started. After many years in the Nerazzurri's youth sector, the 29-year-old goalkeeper has finally signed permanently for Inter. Following his successes with Inter Primavera and many experiences in Italy, a new chapter is now underway.
Did you ever imagine you'd be back at Inter? "It is a dream for me to be back among the first team. I started off in the junior teams and now I'm here; I'm over the moon."
You went through every level in the youth sector, Inter was your destiny... "I've always been happy here. I played in the youth sector from nine years of age to 19: I won the NextGen Series and the Primavera title. Then, I had five years out on loan, came back for a season to be 4th choice, before moving on to have other spells at other clubs. And now I'm back here again, which will be my 17th year at Inter."
Have you had other Nerazzurri keepers as reference points? "There are so many: Julio Cesar has been an idol since childhood. But I've also trained with Handanovic, who is a top player. You learn from everyone."
What are your strongest characteristics between the sticks? "I'm brave; I'm not afraid to dive down low to collect the ball, and I've got quick reflexes."
What are you expecting from this opportunity? "I'm keen to learn from all of my teammates, who are my idols in every sense. I'll try to give them a hand in any way I can. I'm so happy to be part of this group of players."
